Anyone who has ever heard the angry staccato exhaust of a mighty "steamer" belching smoke and steam as it laboured on a grade; felt their mournful whistle moan in the distance, or a fast passenger locomotive screaming at a road crossing, can never forget those unmistakable sights and sounds.....

Royal Hudson And A Selkirk Find A Home




The above three images show CPR Royal Hudson 2860 and Selkirk 5935 - both shown in Winnipeg around 1959 - 1960, the exact dates the photographs were taken is unknown, but any help on pinpointing the time would help to clarify events for both locomotives. Royal Hudson 2860 operates out of Squamish, B.C. and was recently overhauled and continues to be used on excursions while 5935, a 2-10-4 T1c Class was the last new locomotive built for the CPR in 1949, the Selkirk type were taken out of service in 1959. It currently resides at the Canadian Railway Museum in Delson, Quebec.
